LINOCUTS

Linocut, also known as Lino print, or linoleum art, is a printmaking technique, a variant of woodcut in which a sheet of linoleum is used for a relief surface.

Linoleum was first intended in the nineteenth century as a floor covering. It became popular with artists for printmaking in the twentieth century. Unlike wood engraving, the soft linoleum can be cut away much more easily than a woodblock and in any direction (as it has no grain). The process is quite satisfying and there’s nothing quite like pulling your first print. Linocuts can be easily done at home without the use of a printing press, a heavy rolling pin or a wooden spoon works just as good!
